Ella's Playset

Wish granters wow
4-year-old Ella with custom playset
Johnston, RI (June 18, 2008) --- Summer could not come soon
enough for 4-year-old Ella of Johnston, RI, as she excitedly
waited for her brand new indoor playroom to be installed in the
comfort of her own home. The day she had been waiting for
finally arrived in May - Her wish had been granted! Ella's
playroom was made possible by the Make-A-Wish Foundation of
Rhode Island.
Ella
was diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy as an infant. This specific
disease is a disorder of posture, muscle tone and movement that
is caused from irregular functions of the brain. Even though she
does not have some advantages that other children do, she is an
energetic, warm, and loving little girl. Ella enjoys playing
tug-of-war with her family and loves her new inflatable rocking
chair and ball pit. After much deliberation, Ella and her family
decided that her dream play room that was custom made would
allow her to play and crawl around in a safe and enjoyable
environment. In addition to her recreational hobbies, Ella has
quite the sweet tooth due to the fact that she loves chocolate
pudding and her favorite junk food is ice cream.
After receiving the wonderful playroom, Ella and her family
could not be more ecstatic. Her Mother, Merideth says, "The
playroom has been a truly incredible addition to our home. Ella
did not sleep for two nights because she was so excited about
her new room." She adds, "Every time my husband and I bring her
by the room, she'll try and pull us in there. She'll sit in that
room for hours and have a blast. We could not be happier."
The
final product that was given to Ella includes all of her
requests with the help from wish granters, Steven Pechie and
Skye Sciolto. Merideth says they have been wonderful. This play
room has enabled Ella to forget about the difficulties that come
along with having Cerebral Palsy. She is able to simply relax
and have a good time with her parents and sister, Sophie.

Grace's Pool Wish

The day couldn't
come soon enough for three-year-old Grace of
Narragansett, as she waited anxiously for her new
custom pool to be installed. That day in August finally came
- Her wish was granted! And now, Grace, who loves the water
and swimming, can easily take a dip with her four siblings,
ages 9, 7, 5 and 18 mos, in their own backyard!

Hiram's Shopping Spree Wish

When Wishgranters Polly and Stephanie asked
Hiram about his wish of choice, the fifteen-year
old from Central Falls thought about the new videogame he'd
been eyeing. Alas - a special shopping spree wish it was!
Hiram traveled in style during his shopping extravaganza in
a stretch Limousine. Hiram has been in and out of Hasbro
Children's Hospital for the past year battling chronic renal
disease. Hiram's physician, Dr. Adam Pallant, pediatric
residency director for Brown University Medical
School/Hasbro Children's Hospital at Rhode Island Hospital,
Providence, was thrilled to hear that Hiram's wish was
granted. Knowing all that Hiram has endured this past year,
he knew his wish would give Hiram the chance to escape from
all the medical appointments and leave his worries of
illness behind, if only for a day.

Miguel's Wish for
a
Nemo Bedroom
"Just Keep Swimming!" was three-year old Miguel's thinking when the
Make-A-Wish Foundation® of
Rhode Island asked what his greatest
wish was. Miguel chose to have the
bedroom that he shares with his twin,
Michael, completely redone with an
"under the sea" theme from his favorite
Disney movie. On Tuesday, May 23,
Miguel's room will be unveiled, complete
with all new furniture from Rooms to
Grow, and Nemo accessories including a
new bed set, special night-light lamps,
and plush stuffed animals of his
favorite characters: Bruce the Shark,
Dory the forgetful fish, and Nemo
himself complete with a lucky fin!
Nemo beanbag chairs will provide a
comfortable place for Miguel to sit when
he watches his favorite movie on his new
television and DVD player, or when his
mom reads his favorite books to him.
After a limo whisks him and his family
to dinner at the Texas Roadhouse around
5PM, Wishgranters will be putting the
finishing touches on Miguel's new room,
which will be unveiled upon the
families' return around 7PM. Miguel,
his family, and his Wishgranters are
happy to invite you over for some
special Nemo cake to celebrate his new
room during his Wish party on Tuesday
evening. Miguel's special wish has been
graciously funded by the Jewelers for
Children, an industry charity supported
by many Rhode Island jewelers. For more

Our 600th Wish -
Jackie's Prom

|
Magical night's like her junior prom are something that 17 year
old Jackie missed out
on due to her life-threatening medical
condition. So, when wish granters asked her what she wanted
most, Jackie's imagination went into action to put together an
event that would not only replace some of what she had missed,
but be even better because it would be exactly as she thought it
should be: "A Night to Remember".
Make-A-Wish Foundation® of Rhode Island marked its 600th wish
when it began planning Jackie's soiree with some sponsorship
help from UAW-GM. About 250 people would be attending Jackie's
prom, so her wish granters got to work to make her dream come
true in five weeks!
Jackie tried on three different dresses at the fittingly titled
dress shop, "Cinderella's Bridal Salon," in the run-up to the
momentous occasion, and the one that she chose was indeed fit
for a princess. Young Jackie looked enchanting in her
floor-length , powder blue, sequin-rippled dress that was
donated by the shop for the occasion.
She
had more to add to her evening than just a fabulous dress,
though. Jackie also was responsible for the invitations to her
prom, which featured a reproduction of her painting of a coastal
beach scene, with waves crashing into sand dunes and red flowers
sprinkled through the grass.
Remarking on the planning and anticipation of Jackie's wish
coming true, her stepmother, Fran said, "The whole process has
been able to occupy her in a good way. It's not just a one-day
thing."
Many
surprises were in store for Jackie the night of the event, but
none compared to the appearance of Jackie's boyfriends, Kyle,
who had obtained a special 96-hour military leave to attend the
vent.
That
night, Jackie wore her spectacular gown adorned with a Swarovski
crystal necklace and chandelier earrings, and Kyle looked most
handsome and impressive in his Marine dress blues. Limousine
transportation was provided to the couple and their special
friends as well.
Excited friends and family gathered at the Atlantic Beach Club
to listen to a popular local band as they sipped their tropical
smoothies. A Palm tree ice sculpture greeted the guest in the
buffet line, and everyone loved the Japanese fighting fish in
glass bowls as centerpieces which wonderfully compliments the
tropical theme that Jackie had chosen for the event.
"Everyone I know and care about came, " said the ecstatic
Jackie. "I just wanted to spend time with them before my
transplant. It's something that really meant a lot to me." |
